Welcome to the wonderful beginning new week! I have a feeling that this week is going to be an awesome week! Why? That’s a secret and you don’t get to know. No, seriously, it’s a secret, don’t waste your time trying to figure it out. So, now that you’re all frustrated and in the right mood to write something violent and angsty, this week you’ve got a plain old theme challenge. You’ve had them before, you’ll have them again, and even if you’re brand new they’re easy to figure out. I give you a theme, and you write me a story around that theme. That being said, the story has to actually be about the theme. If your theme is war, don’t write me a story about a poor maiden who’s love has gone off to war.
Your Theme: ‘Angsty’ romantic adventure!
That’s right, your theme this week is my bane! My nemesis… the ever worthless YA paranormal (or just normal) romance! At least, that’s what I had in mind when I wrote this challenge. So, here’s the deal: you have an extra rule this week. Write a good ‘angsty’ romantic adventure. The YA subgenre is filled with horribly cliched novels about young maidens being rescued by monsters that should be making them lunch. You should avoid this. You might make the story a comedic parody. You might make the story a serious, good romantic adventure. You might make the story a light, tongue in cheek, adventure between fun archetypal characters that don’t take themselves too seriously. Whatever you choose to do, your goal this week is to redeem the angst-filled romantic adventure.
