December has begun, which means that it’s finally the Christmas season.  I know many of you probably started celebrating Christmas back in October, but you are foolish, foolish people.  You’ve missed out of dressing up and celebrating the harvest, and on giving thanks for all that you have.  To start off the Christmas season I want to issue a very special Plot Challenge – a very fantasy Christmas plot.  C.S. Lewis introduced Christmas to the fantasy genre when he put Santa Clause in The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe, so now I’m going to give you a fantasy setting, and some characters to work with, and I want a Christmas plot.  If you’ve forgotten, here are the rules: I provide you with a setting, and up to five characters, and then you come up with one or more plots that would fit.

Your Setting: The nation of Lenotia in the fantasy world of Advaria.  Lenotia is known for its long and wild holiday celebrations, but it has never celebrated Christmas before.  The introduction of this new holiday promises to draw interest from the crowds of jaded nobles and tired peasantry.  Will Christmas actually be the holiday of holiday’s that has been promised, or will it just be another raucous, hedonistic affarir?  You can safely assume that any creatures from traditional fantasy or European mythology (I.E. Greek, Germanic, Gaellic, etc) exist in Advaria.

Your Characters:

Baron Hardsley – The Baron is known for his wild celebrations, often including raucous music, drunken minotaurs, and late night orgies of pleasure.  However, the Baron is jaded; he has seen it all, and nothing excites him anymore.  Now he is looking to the new holiday, Christmas, to show him the true meaning of celebration.

Fingers – A street rat who grew up never knowing what a full belly or a good nights sleep felt like.  Fingers isn’t bitter about his life, instead he believes that he should take every opportunity offered to him and make the most of it.

Mr. Welsh – Baron Harsley’s Butler.  The Baron has tasked him with discovering what Christmas is all about, and how it should be celebrated.

The Christmas Spirit – An ephemeral creature that is difficult to grasp, and easy to mistake for imposters.  The Christmas Spirit intends to spread joy throughout the nation of Lenotia.
